Forged Flanges

M.S. Forged Steel Flanges Manufacturer & Supplier – Mumbai, India · Since 1999

ANSI B16.5 CertifiedClass 150–2500Superior StrengthDirect ManufacturerPAN India Supply

M.S. Forged Flanges are manufactured by the hot forging process — where heated steel billets are compressed under high pressure between dies. This forging process refines and aligns the grain structure of the steel, producing a flange with superior tensile strength, toughness and fatigue resistance compared to flanges cut from plate or made by casting. Manufactured at our Darukhana, Mumbai factory to ANSI B16.5 standard. Available in sizes 15mm NB to 600mm NB, Class 150 to Class 2500. The standard choice for critical service in oil refineries, power plants, petrochemical plants and high-pressure pipelines.

What Are Forged Flanges?

Forged Flanges are produced by the hot forging process: a heated steel billet is placed between shaped dies and compressed under thousands of tonnes of pressure. This closes internal voids, refines grain structure, eliminates segregation and aligns the metallic grain flow with the shape of the forging — resulting in a flange with mechanical properties significantly superior to an equivalent cast or plate-cut flange.

Key property advantages of Forged vs Plate-Cut Flanges:

  • Higher tensile strength — refined grain structure under compressive forging
  • Better toughness — superior impact resistance, especially at low temperatures
  • Superior fatigue resistance — continuous grain flow without stress concentrations
  • No internal porosity or voids — forging closes any internal defects
  • Consistent mechanical properties — uniform properties throughout the forging

When Are Forged Flanges Mandatory?

Project specifications for oil & gas, power and petrochemical projects typically mandate forged flanges (e.g., "flanges to ASTM A105 Grade I or II" or "forged flanges per ANSI B16.5") for Class 300 and above. They are also required in ASME/PED code-compliant pressure systems. Always consult your project specification before ordering.

Forged Flanges – Industries & Applications

Oil Refineries

Standard specification for all process piping in crude oil, gas and refined products service. Class 300–900 for process units; Class 1500–2500 for high-pressure wellhead and injection systems.

Power Plants

Used in steam generation and distribution systems, boiler connections and turbine inlet piping. Class 600–900 for high-pressure high-temperature steam service in thermal power stations.

Petrochemical Plants

Used in cracking units, process heaters and high-pressure reactors. Forged flanges provide the fatigue resistance needed for cyclic pressure and thermal cycling in petrochemical processes.

Gas Pipelines

Used in high-pressure gas transmission and distribution pipelines. Class 600–900 forged flanges at valve stations, meter stations and pig launchers/receivers.

ASME Code Systems

Required in ASME B31.1 (Power Piping) and ASME B31.3 (Process Piping) code systems where the material specification requires ASTM A105 forged carbon steel for Class 300 and above.

Forged Flanges – Frequently Asked Questions

What are Forged Flanges and why are they stronger?

+

Forged Flanges are manufactured by the hot forging process — compressing heated steel billets under high pressure between dies. This closes internal voids, refines and aligns the grain structure, and eliminates segregation — producing a flange with higher tensile strength, better fatigue resistance and superior toughness compared to equivalent plate-cut or cast flanges.

What is the difference between Forged Flanges and plate-cut Flanges?

+

Forged Flanges: manufactured by hot forging of steel billets — superior grain structure, higher strength, better fatigue resistance, no internal porosity, suitable for all pressure classes including Class 2500. Plate-cut Flanges: manufactured by cutting from rolled plate — grain flow is disrupted at cut edges, lower fatigue resistance, suitable for lower pressure classes (PN6–PN40 / Class 150–300). Forged flanges cost more but provide significantly better mechanical performance.

What pressure classes are available for Forged Flanges?

+

Forged Flanges are available in all ANSI B16.5 pressure classes: Class 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500 and 2500. The applicable pressure class at your operating temperature can be determined from ANSI B16.5 pressure-temperature tables. Contact our technical team for guidance on class selection for your specific application.

Are your Forged Flanges ASTM A105 equivalent?

+

Yes. The IS:2062 Grade E250 Mild Steel used in our Forged Flanges is equivalent in mechanical properties to ASTM A105 forged carbon steel — with similar tensile strength (410–530 N/mm²), yield strength (≥ 250 N/mm²) and chemical composition. For projects requiring actual ASTM A105 material certification, please specify this at the time of enquiry so we can arrange accordingly.

How do I order Forged Flanges?
