Pressure Reducing and Desuperheating (PRDS) systems are crucial components in steam distribution networks, designed to regulate steam pressure and temperature for optimal performance and efficiency.

There are four main types of Pressure Reducing and Desuperheating (PRDS) Systems :

Direct Acting PRDS Systems

Direct acting PRDS systems operate by directly reducing steam pressure using a pressure-reducing valve (PRV) and simultaneously desuperheating the steam to a desired temperature. These systems are simple in design and suitable for applications where precise control of steam parameters is not critical.

Pilot Operated PRDS Systems

Pilot operated PRDS systems use a combination of a pilot valve and a main valve to regulate steam pressure and temperature. The pilot valve senses changes in downstream pressure and sends signals to the main valve to adjust accordingly, ensuring precise control over steam parameters even under varying operating conditions.

Combined PRDS Systems
